Tracy, I have posted the following message to a number of people on Rootsweb who claim that Daniel Markham (the grandson of Robert Markham of Cotham, Nottinghamshire, and his wife Anne Warburton) married Elizabeth Whitmore: According to the Pedigree of Markham in "Familiae Minorum Gentium" (edited by John Clay, Vol III, p.969. Published by Harleian Society in 1895), Daniel Markham, son of Sir Robert Markham and Ann Warburton, was a merchant in Norwich, Norfolk. His wife is not named. Their son Daniel is recorded being married to Elizabeth, daughter of Captain Fennell of Cappa in Ireland and his wife Frances, the daughter of General Fleetwood. This appears to contradict the statement that he married Elizabeth Whitmore repeated by a number of people on Rootsweb.I do not know on what evidence that is based. Daniel and Elizabeth are recorded as having 3 sons: Major William Markham, Encoh & Matthew. A daughter is listed, but not named. The Markham pedigree in "Familiae Minorum Gentium" is based on information recorded by members of the Markham and related families. Major William Markham, married Elizabeth Markham said to have been of the Markham family of Ollerton(Nottinghamshire). Their son William Markham, born 1719, became Archbishop of York. I hope this may be of interest to you in helping you to sort out the wheat from the chaff! Best wishes to you. Notify Administrator about this message?
