Markell/Merckel/Mericle's from Duanesburg, Schenectady, NY, 1700's

Help! I've found myself in a Markell/Merckel mess! I can not believe how many different spellings there are!!!I am a direct descendant of a Catharina (Catherina/Catherine etc) Merckel who was born in or around Albany/Schenectady, NY abt 1770-75. She married a Cornelius Waldron and they baptised a son, Cornelius H in Duanesburgh, NY in 1792. I am desperately trying to find any additional info on this particular Catharina (there are a bunch of them) and her parents/lineage. I will be more than happy to share any info I have on the many Merckle/Markell's I've collected.

I'm also seeking info on the name. I've read it is German Palatine but my ancestors always said French. Could be the reason behind the various spellings.
