I descend from George Marchbanks dau Sarah who married Joseph Hawkins in Cumberland Co previously Goochland. It is now Powhatan Co where Manakintown is located. Joseph and Sarah then moved to Prince Edward Co where he died 1782. She then married 2nd to Jacob Wadell and they moved to Nottoway where they both died. Between her 2 husbands she had many children . Mostly Hawkins. Her dau Mary (Polly)Hawkins is who I descend from and she married Abraham McGehee 1799 and moved from Nottoway VA to Wilson Co TN in 1834.

I have a very large Gedcom sent to me by a descendant of George Marchbanks and it claims that we descend from Marjori( marjone)b 1296 the dau of Robert the Bruce . But I can find nothing to support that. Marjori had married Walter Stewart and altho she did claim the the Marjoribanks estate it was later bought by the Johnsons who took the name Marjoribanks.Marjori died in childbirth with her only child Robert .

It is interresting that the neighbors of George by Manakintown the Watkins and Walkers all married into my same McGehee line. And Tabitha Echols married into my Tucker line all in areas of Cumberland/ Pr Edward/Amelia/Nottoway VA.

The McGehee's were first in VA 1653 and were Jacobites . They later settled inHanover/ Goochland Co and Abraham had son Jacob whose lands were in later Cumberland and the portion that became Powhatan/ Manakintown . He married a Fuqua . His son Abraham then married Mary the dau of Sarah dau of George Marchbanks.

Manakintown is the settlement of the Huguenots who came in 1704 to VA.
