My father is Robert margeson, his father was Charles margeson, his father was William margeson, I am still trying to make connections to earlier generations.
What I have found on John Margeson
There was a freeman made in the third year of the mayorality of Robert Walter in 1722-23 for John Margeson who was a mariner, could be the father.A john Margeson marries Elizabeth Woortman in Albany, NY on August 7,1756 and came to Boston on the sloop mercury from New york sometime between 1762-69.I don't know if he came with his wife, elizabeth.John Margeson served as the 1st mastermate on the sloop, Providence which was commanded by John Paul Jones and also was 1st mastermate on the Alfred, also commanded by John Paul Jones. They were involved in capturing the Alexander, Mellish and Active in 1776.A petition dated December 22, 1777 came him the command of the "General Lincoln" (privateer). This is all I have I am still in the gathering info phase and haven't yet begun putting it all together.
