On a whim, I googled my grandmother's maiden name, Spatenka. In care you're still working on this, for what little it's worth, my father's mother was named at birth Hattie Spatenka. She was born in rural Minnesota, near Owatonna. She was born Sept 5, 1895. Her parents were Frank and Anna (Pichner) Spatenka. She had two brothers, Henry and George Spatenka. (She added a middle name Elsie when she was about 18; it was the name of her best friend. She married Harvey August Von Wald and took the Von Wald name. She died a Nov. 7, 1998 (at age 103) and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, near Mason City, Iowa.
