I have located a list of the mayors and sherriffs of Limerick from 1197 to 1700. Not a Marcy or any derivation thereof to be found. This leads me to believe that if John were the son of the sherriff, perhaps he was illegitimate and we need somehow to find his mother's side. Any way, we will keep searching. I am also researching older English documents to trace them from the other direction. Any clues or assistance in that area would be appreciated.
