Dr. Edward Marcy is the son of the Edward Marcy who went south. As far as I know he was an only child. The medical bent is a prominent trait in the Marcy family.
There were four children born to Dr. Marcy. The oldest son Edward Marcy (JR) has descendants today in MS. TX, and TN.He had at least two sons, Marton, and Zadoc. Of Marton's sons, Osburn Marcy lived in Munford, TN, where his grandchildren lived. The other son of Osburn, David Marcy died 1894 as a young father of at least six children, including twins. These children were raised in foster homes in MS. and many have descendants living today. One of the siblings was William Marton Marcy who became a prosperous farmer in Lee. Co. MS.
The younger son of Dr. Edward Marcy was Azel. Azel lived from 1774-1856. In his life he moved a number of times, always seeking a better opportunity. He became a successful and prosperous plantation owner in Itawamba Co. MS. When he died
he left a large estate, and 12 slaves. His land was on the Tombigbee River. He had four daughters and one son, Masden Marcy.
More work needs to be done on this elusive line of Marcy's. I can relate as it took ten years to find the clue that led me to connect my own Marcy grandparent to the Woodstock family. Sometimes conclusive proof is the smallest notation on a family letter, as the travels across New York to the midwest are only known through family stories.
You should contact some of the Marcy's in your state. You are certainly related to the twins Leston and Preston Marcy of Tupelo. I would be most interested in what you find out, and please post the results.
Have you seen the Azel Marcy will posted on Rootsweb?
