Hi Sylvia,
Marcus is a collateral line for me. Jess W. Marcus was the grandson of my g grandparents, James A. HILL and Sarah Jane BOONE. His mother was their daughter, Mary Ann "Annie" HILL who married Cyrus C. (also shown in census as Sy, Sie, and S. T., but tombstone shows C. C.). Maudie Lee DIGGS was the daughter of J. W. DIGGS and Emma Josephine WAINSCOTT. Emma Josephine was the daughter of John WAINSCOTT and Nancy HILL. Nancy was the daughter of my gg grandparents, James Harl HILL and Rebecca CROCKETT. Charlie and Maudie Lee DIGGS MARCUS are also buried at Alamo Cemetery. I posted a large number of tombstone transcriptions from that cemetery to the Obion Co. TNGenWeb.org site after visiting there last year.

The father of Jess, b. 1890, was Cyrus C. MARCUS; father of Cyrus C. was J. M., b. c1820 (wife, Elizabeth).

The father of Charlie, b. 1888, was John MARCUS, b. Dec. 1858, wife, Susan; I believe that John and Cyrus were brothers, but I'm not totally sure. See census below:

1870 Weakley Co. TN Census, Dist. 14
MARCUS, J. M. 50 TN
Elizabeth 45 TN
Louisa 22 TN
S. P. (female) 21 TN
M. A. (female) 19 TN
M. E. (female) 18 TN
Octavy (Octavia) 14 TN
J. C. H. (male) 11 TN (Possibly John, b. c1858??)
E. J. (female) 8 TN
E. B. (female) 6 TN
S. T. (male) 3 TN (I'm positive that this is Cyrus, also known as Sy, Sie in other census, since I found him as Cyrus in a census (1880, I believe, notes not in front of me) in the household of his mother, Elizabeth. I'll double check that.

John and Susan MARCUS, who I believe to have been the parents of Charlie, appeared in the 1880 Obion Co. TN Census, Dist. 7, with boarders, Amanda and Emily TARBUTTON in their household. Hope some of this helps.
Brenda
