Marcum / Markum Minerva or Manervy 1800's

I am looking for Marcum and Stevens relatives in Kentucky.
I am descended from Barnards who came later, but the earlier one was David Stevens/Stephens who married Minerva Marcum / Markum/ Markam.

My grandfather Christopher William Barnard, married Edna America Stevens who was born in Kentucky in 1886. Edna said her father was David Stevens or (Stephens?) and her mother had been Minerva (or Manerva or Manervy) Marcum (or other Markam spellings) and they lived in Kentucky at the time.

I have found lots of information about the Barnards, but the line I have never been able to follow is the Markum and Stevens ones. Gramma thought her mother was born in 1872. Gramma said she was quarter Cherokee as well and had some Penn Dutch background too. She also said she had a relative who was Charles Fairchild who died in the civil war.

In the Kentucky Census of 1880 I have found David Stevens in Shiloh Co whose wife was listed as Manervy. It lists on the census that she was born in 1849 in Ohio and that he was born in 1838 in Indiana. But because Grandma was born in 1886, after the date of the census I am not 100% sure this is her family, it only shows the names of the older children born before my grandmother.

Gramma said that "David and Minerva had a large farm with many acres and were considered well off. They raised cattle and horses. On the farm they had paid black labourers as they wouldn't hold slaves."

One of Gramma Edna's sisters was Maggie Mott, (1889-1959)

Also Grandma said she thought that Minerva (or Minervi) was born in Virginia ! (perhaps who ever gave the information was not sure of her birthplace because it give no information for her parents birthplaces.) But of course Gramma could have gotten the date and place of birth wrong when she told me, as she was pretty old then too.

I have found an old census 1850 census record of Markams in Virginia which is tantalizing because it lists a baby Minervi Markam (or Markum) daughter of Joseph and Doshia born in 1949. AND another family of Markam's on the same page so I think they were probalby related. That family who had a baby America Markam who seems to be the child of James and Edith with grandmother listed as Martha. My Grandmothers middle name was America, so that may have been a family name. I just haven't been able to find out if any of these are the right ones and who this Minevi Markam baby married or where she grew up.

Because I dont know what the exact spellings it seems like looking for a needle in a haystack. The census I found has the Stevens spelling, but Grammas death certificate said Stephens.
But any of these names or circumstances ring any bells for anyone else I will greatly appreciate the information.

Many Thanks
Kris Bernard
