Idetification of Therese Gelieu
To Jacqueline Michell
Hallo Jacqueline,
When looking for members of the Gelieu-family in Canada and US I found the Marcotte-genealogy. There I found the 3 wifes of Mathias Marcotte: Tharsile Brouillet, Therese Valiquette and Therese Gelieu.
In ancestery.co Iread Your mail about Tharsile Bruillet and I think, the explanation for the change of the names La Violette to Valiquette and Bouillet die Gileau to Gilles and to Gelieu is not quite correct. I think, these 3 names are 3 different persones.
I the www I found the name of the family Valiquett as own name, wide spread in US and Canada. Valiquett is a French name and means foreigner.
With regards to Therese Gelieu in the Marcotte-genealoy – Gelieu is also an own French family name, coming from Perigord, where this family lived in the 14. and 15. cent.
There is no change from Gileau or Gilles. They are only knowen as Gelieu, Gellieu , Gellieux or Gelieux. It is a very old family, some members live to day in France in the area of Agen. The other branch emigrated after the Reformation to Swiss and to Germany. You can red about the Gelieu Family in the websideof John McCoy.
With best regards
Bernhard von Gelieu D 56072 Koblenz
