Okay...this line gets realy confusing, because both Cyprien Tanguay and Jean Marcotte made errors in their genealogical dictionaries on oe page, but have it right on other pages, or in other entries.
Jean didn't seem to have your father Raymond
although he did show a Raymond married to a Yvette Thibault in 1951. That Raymond's father was also an Ely (Elie) Marcott(e).
Here's your line (as found via a mixture of Jean Marcotte's Genealogical Dictionary of the Marcotte Family and in Cyprien Tanguay's Genealogical Dictionary of Canadian Families:
Eric (you), son of Ralph Marcott
Ralph, son of Raymond Marcotte
Raymond, son of Ely (aka Elie) Marcott
Elie, son of Mathias Marcotte
Mathias Marcotte, son of Jacques (called Jacob) Marcotte and Marie-Francoise Piché, Jacques and M-Francoise were married in 1793 in Cap Sante, Quebec.
Page 182 of Jean Marcotte's book shows
Jacques to be the son of Jean Francois Marcotte and Marie-Anne Germain.
Tanguay's volume 5 shows Jean Francois to be the son of Francois III, but the numerical indicator III is worthless...there are too many Francois & Jean-Francois to verifiably tell which one he meant. Jean Marcotte's book
shows Francois (= Jean Francois) to be the son of Jean- Francois and Genevieve Morrissette, but that part is in error. It should show Jean Francois (called Francois) to be the son of
Jean-Francois and Marie-Anne Morrissette. There were two brothers, both named Jean-Francois who both married Morisettes (sisters) and that has caused a lot of confusion, especially in files that are show on the internet...
In actuality...
Jean Francois (m. M-Francoise Piché) was the
son of Jean-Francois ("Petit Jean") Marcot and Marie-Anne Morissette (aka Morrisset).
Jean-Francois "Petit Jean" Marcot was the son
of Jacques Marcot and Elisabeth Salé.
Jacques Marcot is the "pioneer Founding father" honored in 1967 (the 300th Centennial Celebration of the Marcotte Families in Canada). He arrived in Montréal in 1667 and settled firts in Bécancour (across from Trois Rivieres), then Neuville and finally in Cap Santé. Wehn he came from Fécamp, Normandy, he was accompanied by his brother, Nicolas.
You can find a few earlier generations before Jacques, and tons of more Marcotte genealogy at my website:http://faculty-staff.ou.edu/M/Michael.L.Marcotte-1/marcotte.htm
Best regards,
Michael Marcotte
