Hi... seems like we might find the missing Marchyshyn link yet! My Marchyshyns are from Nanty Glo, PA and immigrated to the US from Galicia in 1913. Oleksa was a coal miner and is actually pictured in Life Magazine (10 May 1943). He always referred to himself as Ukrainian as well; but other records I have show him as Austrian or Polish. I have an uncle, as Kim mentioned, named John (son of Oleksa) who is currently residing in Pittsburgh. There is also evidence that my line is related to the Marchyshyns Kim located in France; I am still waiting on those docs. I have also been in contact with another branch of the family who also has roots in Galicia, but always referred to themselves as Polish. Michelle has been researching that family; she is in MD. Her father, Michael Marchyshyn was born in Warsaw or Austria and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Michael's father, also an Oleksa (not the same as mine), settled in McKees Port, PA. She also has family in Elmira, PA. I am looking forward to seeing what we can all come up with if we work together!
