Marchman ancestry from The Rock, GA 1800

I was told as a young boy by my grandfather, James Marchman Gibbs, that our middle name was the surname of an officer that fought in The War. My grandfather also attained the rank of staff seargent in the Army and served overseas during the Korean War. I am curious about the lineage of the first Marchman's to reside in North America and which European country(s) they came from.
