Marquette vs Marchetti
Can someone tell me the pronunciation of Marchetti? My great grandfather was Paul A. Marquette who married Virginie M. Hernandez Markasol in Louisiana on March 04, 1889.We have a document which shows the name to be Marchetti and some family members said they found proof that that is the correct name. I wonder if there was confusion at the time of his entry into the U.S. with the pronunciation, specifically if the "ch" is pronounced as a "q".The only information I have on him, and it is all family lore, is that he came from Corsica to New Orleans and settled in that area.In his later years he returned to Corsica to die.We always thought he was French however after studying the history of Corsica we discovered it was an Italian island at the time of his birth.Marchetti would tie in with that. Also, does anyone know if there is an immigration site similar to the one for Ellis Island for New Orleans? Thanks for any help you can give.
