I am interested to know more about this Marchand line. You mentioned the Canton Library which led me to think that we may be talking about the same family as it is the same area as the family I am researching.
You see, I have been trying to trace my husbands family but the Marchand name changes with the pronounciation I would guess. I find it sometimes as Marchand and others as Marchant. Then sometimes it takes on a whole new identity by becoming Burchard. Go figure that one.
Anyway, I have records of Sophronia Marchand born June 5, 1836 daughter of Peter Marchand and Teresa Eteine. She was baptized in Hogansburg on July 10, 1836. Sophronia married Paul Longamore ( the spelling of this name also changes frequently in different records). Sophronia died and is buried in Massena. I can't find where her husband Paul is buried but probably around the Brasher Falls area.
What I really want to know is where did Peter Marchand and his wife Teresa Eteine come from?? Would love to correspond with any of the families I mentioned. Thank you Gloria
