Twelve months after date I promise to pay to the order
of Joseph C. and Omaline March, his wife
Seven hundred and forty two Dollars
for [illegible], it being the balance owed on a tract of
land in Smith County, Tennessee, bought by me [?] of said J.C. March and his wife & this shall be held as a lien on the property, until paid.
