Hello, Lee, nice to hear from you.
My Maplesden info is rather skimpy.
In looking into the ancestry of my AVANN family, I found that John Avann of Beckley, Sussex married Elizabeth MAPLESDEN in early June 1713 St Mary Bredman, Canterbury, Kent. She was 'of Newenden' at the time of marriage
[Canterbury Diocese Marriage Licences] . This couple then resided in Beckley where John and Elizabeth AVAN baptized 6 children between 1715 - 1731.
Names of the children were Elizabeth (1715, John (1717), Thomas (1719), Thomas [again] (1723), Ezekiell (1725), and Mary (1731). John AVAN, [husband of Elizabeth] is buried in Beckley 12 May 1735 [Beckley Parish Register], then Elizabeth, widow of John AVAN 17 Nov 1737.
Elizabeth MAPLESDEN is apparently the one by that name baptized in Beckley, Sussex 26 Apr 1691. She would have been age 22 at the 1713 marriage. She is the daughter of Richard and Ann MAPLESDEN who bp. another girl in Beckley, Sarah MAPLESDEN, 18 Sep 1698.
Those are their only baptisms in Beckley. I have wondered if the family moved to Newenden as that is where Elizabeth is 'from' at her 1713 marriage.
I believe, but do not know for certain, that the Richard and Ann MAPLESDEN who baptized girls in 1691 and 1698 in Beckley, are the Richard MAPLESDEN and Ann BOREMAN who married in Northiam, Sussex 28 Jun 1685. I haven't found anything to verify or refute this assumption.
Ann BOREMAN **may** be the Ann baptized as daughter of Thomas BOREMAN and Anne IDEN [IGI] 18 Nov 1654, Cranbrook, Kent. If this is so, then Ann m. Richard MAPLESDEN when she was 30 and the girls would have been from the tail end of her child-bearing years, born when she was about 36 and 43. Were there earlier children born elsewhere? or perhapsRichard MAPLESDEN's wife had other parents.
I have not found any information allowing me to back further with Richard MAPLESDEN's ancestry, although the name seems to be an old one in Kent - and
Since your MAPLESDEN is also from this area, I would very much like to hear from you when you get back into the late 1600s with your Maplesdens.
Please keep in contact, and if you have info on Maplesdens in 1600s, please let me know. I would love to have the information even if it is not yet possible to make connections.
Thank you again,
Bonnie
