"Peter Mahpoil" NY CT 1600s

If you've added this name to your family tree, you might want to think again. I just finished some intensive research in New Netherlands documents looking for information on "Peter Mahpoil." I conclude that he's probably the product of some very sloppy research. There was a Peter Casparse, who also used the surname Mabille; he married Aechtje Van Norden; they had six kids, all of whom are accounted for; two sons, neither named Stephen. Peter died around 1664, Aechtje around 1687, both in New Amsterdam. No one in the family ever lived in or near New London. There's no connection to the Maples family that I can see.
If anyone has a documentary source that contradicts this, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Rik B.
