The Mormons are down at the moment; they may have him too.

RW WC has 6,000+ MAPLE entries, many of them duplicates.
Gene Stark's gendex.com,

has 1,350 MAPLE and another 3,200 MAPLES. You should probably check both. My WILKEN grandfather sepnt half his life saying "that's 'EN', no 'S' on the end" but still got recorded as "Wilkins" in a couple of places.
Rootsweb and I both have guides for beginners. Theirs is more comprehensive, more authoritive and better written. Mine has better jokes.

There are about 4,000 other guides for beginners on the web. I picked two that come to mind, using quality and hunger as my guide. Theirs is the highest quality, mine is the one that will help me win a bet for lunch with a co-worker over whose site gets the most hits. My page has links to the 11 largest free genealogy sites on the Internet.
You didn't say where the "Maple CD" was from. It might just be a list culled from nation-wide telephone book data. Not all of the people selling things to genealogists are honest.
According to the US Census Bureau,
http://www.census.gov/genealogy/www/namesearch.htmlhttp://www.census.gov/genealogy/www/namesearch.html
MAPLES ranked 2,811th in popularity in the US in 1990; MAPLE, 4,748th. By contrast, SMITH was 1, followed by JOHNSON, WILLIAMS and JONES. PACK is 1,681st. You folks are rare, but not unknown.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
