Thanks Joe for the info on Samuel Mapes born 1800. Now I can continue on the back search of info for him. I saw this info on Ancestry.com but could not be sure of the connection. His daughter Mary Elizabeth born in 1836 or 37 married Zephaniah Dunn on Nov. 13 1851 and he was my mother's gr. gr. grandfather. They settled in St. Joseph, Champaign Co., Illinois. I noticed in the 1870 census that Samuel was living with a Joseph and Isabel Peterson on their farm in St. Joseph do you know if there is a family connection here. Also, I noticed a Daniel Mapes as a neighbor, born around 1828 in Indiana, wife's name was Elizabeth J., what is the connection to Samuel? I appreciate the info.
