John Manzer from Otsego County (Cherry Valley) area New York State

I am trying to get info on John Manzer who was born February, 1840 in Otsego County, New York (family history indicates the Cherry Valley area). Haven't been able to locate John in any of the NY census records. John was married to Elizabeth Roxanne Goodrich, not sure if they married in NY or Michigan. Their eldest son, Albert Shepard was born in Michigan in 1861 or 1862, so at least Roxanne was in Michigan by 1861-1862. We believe that John Manzer served in the Union Army during the civil war. We think he may have served with a NY regiment as he doesn't appear in Michigan regimental records. Wonding if anyone out there may have any info concerning John Manzer, his parents and his military service.

I would appreciate any info as I have been at an impasse concerning John and the Manzer family history for many years.
