George Washington Manus/Manis arrived with mother and several siblings in Gainesville Ga in the late 1840s from North Carolina. In the Thirties there was a small town in NC where every other name on main street was Manus, near Hamlet NC. Many of the family lived in Jackson County GA. I noticed that someone said their ancestor moved further north in GA from Jackson County and that your mom was from jefferson. GW married several times. His children that i reccollect were Ceaf or Ceaph Chesley Manus known as CornCob born in the late 70s or early 80s who became police chief of Gainesville twice. Another Child was George? Wash(ington) Manus known as Wash in Gainesville. both died in the fifties. CC married mattie richardson(i think and had one child who died as a young man named jesse). CC also married Sarah/Sallie Nabors who died about 1970 age 95 or so. they are buried on the front of Gainesville cemetery facing the Atlanta Hwy.
