Hi Carol,
Nice to hear from you. Including myself I have got information on 7 generations back to approx. 1750. They were mostly part of the textile business - weavers of the paisley shawl- and other associated occupations or in the iron moulding/shipbuilding trade.The generation born about 1920 were the first to go to university.I haven't yet worked out who emigrated although there is a suggestion that some went to one of the steel producing cities in the states.The most common christian names are William, Hugh, Thomas, John Andrew and David as well as Wilson for the 'boys' and Janet, Agnes, Jean, Margaret, Catherine and Ann for the 'girls'. I also have A Lilias(Lilly) who married a James McFarlane.I'd be happy to compare notes.
