Thanks for responding. It is almost definately the same family. Nelson (b1833), Charles (b1827) and Howard G. (b1825) Mantle were born in Harrisville NY. I was not sure who their father was but your posting would put Jacob Jr in the right spot at the right time. (His wife, Elmina would have been about 19 when she had Howard). Nelson married Elizabeth Cook in 1856. They had 5 children and I have a great deal of info about them. One of the daughters was murdered by her husband in 1907 and it make for interesting reading in the on-line newspapers.
There were quite a few Mantles in Harrisville and it is a very small town. I talked to the town historian a few months ago and she had an old friend who was a descendent of the family. She was going to try to get more info from him.
Your list of JacobSr's children showed 2 Jacobs as children. Is this correct? I also believe that there were 8 children and I was able to match the other 7 but was unsure about the eighth.
It would appear that Jacob Jr settled in Harrisville prior to 1823 but I have not looked at a census.
I would appreciate any additional info about Jacob Sr.
