For some time I have been looking for a part of my family, but have come up short, because I apparently had bad, well intentioned, but let us say faulty information. I now wish to re post with what appears to be more correct information. It comes from (it is an old letter) a daughter of Jacob and Margaret E. Bond Mansker.
According to this letter, my grandma, Ora Virginia King , born 1 April 1894 in Thebes, Illinois, was the daughter of Katy Petitt (Pettit) and Ben King. Katy was the daughter of Caroline Mansker Petitt and Hiram Petitt. Caroline was a sister to Jacob L. Mansker. We knew that Katy (we didn't know her name at the time) had died just weeks after having grandma. We did not know that Ben (we didn't know his name either) had died not to long after that. We knew grandma had been given to relatives to raise, but we didn't know the connection. In the 1900 census, Ora is found with the Manskers and is listed as a niece,, then in 1910, before marrying Millard Henderson Shelton, she was living with Claude and May Drass, and is listed as a cousin.
With this new information, does anyone know me now?
