"FATAL ACCIDENT"
"The Steam Boat Tennessee, Capt. Campbell, on her voyage up the river between New Orleans and Natches, struck a log some distance from shore in the night of February 8th, and in about five minutes went down. There were about 150 persons on board about 30 of whom met a watery grave. The cargo was particularly valuable, none of which was saved. The following are the names of part of those who perished.
"Cabin passengers Drowned - Mr. J. Nouvel, of Lexington, Ky.; Mr. Pool, of Baltimore; Mr. Maybin, of Philadelphia; Mr. Carathers, of Tennessee.
"Deck Passengers Drowned - George Saunders, of Lexington; Samuel Cooper of Kentucky; David Knaw, do. John Curby, Samuel Henceley, John Steward, John Kipler, Mrs. Mansker and child, Mr. Terley, James Bradford, negro; Henry, do. two negro women and two negro boys, and ten passengers whose names are not known."
