Samuel Mansker Married Nancy Moore?
Hello,
My name is Malcolm Johnson. This could be a big deadend. Then, again, I may have found a nifty little key to unlock some things. I am trying to trackdown a woman named Nancy Jane Moore, who was the second wife of James Johnson. They were md on or abt 9 Apr, 1889, in Morley, Scott Co., MO. In her obit (1933) it says that she was born 6 Feb, 1857 in Chester, Randolph Co., IL. I have James' Civil WarMilitary & Pension files. In the pension documents is a letter from the Assistant Director, Dept. of Commerce, bureau of Census, dated 11 Aug, 1932. It is addressed to the Director of Pensions, Washington, D.C.It is a response to an apparent inquiry about Nancy Jane Moore Johnson. The body gives an excerpt from the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census for Randolph Co., IL. My guess is they were trying to confirm the age or origin of Nancy Jane. The 1860 entry is for the family of Wm. Moore with Adeline, F.W., Wm., Sarah E. (2 Yrs) and Francis. The 1880 family is that of Samuel Mansker with Nancy B., "and family" and Moore, Emmer A. (23 Yrs) "Servant". The 1870 family is Samuel Mansker with Nancy B., "and family" and Moore, Nancy C. (15 Yrs). In each case the name with the age included has a notation of ""May be pensioner".
It could be that none of the three are my Nancy Jane Moore Johnson. But, then again, maybe one or more is the correct person. Does anyone have any information re theis Samuel Mansker, wife(?) Nancy B. and family? Were Nancy C. (maybe J.) and Emmer A. Moore both servants? Was Nancy C. the daughter of Nancy B. by a former marriage. I welcome any and all help with this. Please post a reply to this site. My email isn't working properly.
Thank you for your time and effort.
Malcolm
