I am searching for information concerning the parents and descendents of William MANSELL,b.about 1805-6,Sumter County,SC -- who were his parents? One source says Edward, b. about 1775 and Nancy (?) BATEMAN (?) who had the following children: William; Edward, Jr.,b. March 3,1809; George; Robert; Richard; John; Rebecca,b. about 1809-1810, m. Daniel SPIKES.
> MANSELL, WILLIAM, b.1805 m. Millie (Emilia) RODGERS, b.about 1802 in Tattnall Co.,GA., daughter of William RODGERS. children: Gray; Henry, b.1827, m. (1)Matilda COLE; (2) Sarah ?; Robert; Edmund,b.1830, m. Nancy MOORE on 9/9/1860 in Duval Co., FL --daughter of John MOORE; Hiram,b.Sept. 26, 1833,m. Elizabeth DURHAM. William left Ware Co, GA (now Coffee/Atkinson Counties) and moved to Jasper Co. TX. This was after a "dispute about women;" the details are not known but his wife, Millie, stayed behind with infant, Hiram; she divorced William and married James McKINNON, Sr. She died in 1852. William and his brother, Edward, Jr. applied for land grants in Jasper Co.,TX in 1836; this land was recorded in their possession in 1853 in Jasper and Williamson Co.,TX. William is said to have moved to Rapides Parish,LA where he married a Mrs. Mariele(?).
> MANCIL, HENRY, b.1827 m. (1) Matilda COLE, b.1830 (GA). children: George,b.1852; Rowan,b.1854; Hiram,b.1856, m. Mary ARNOLD, April 18,1874, in Coffee Co.,GA; Henry, Jr.,b. 1858, m. Elizabeth JEWELL,Jan.23,1887, in Coffee Co.,GA; Oliver,b.1860; Mary,b.1863; Berrien, b.1870. m. (2) Sarah ?, b. about 1835, in MS. children: Robert, b.about 1868,TX; Laura,b.about 1870,TX. Henry MANCIL and his family are listed in the Coffee Co., GA census for 1860 and 1870. Henry is found in the 1880 census records for Llano Co, TX with his children Mary and Berrien, wife Sarah, and children Robert and Laura (perhaps her children by a former marriage).
>MANSEL, EDMUND,1830 m. Nancy MOORE; Edmund is found living in Clinch Co., GA in 1850 with James Peterson and in Echols Co., GA with John Hill in 1870. Enlisted as Private, Co. E, 26 GA Regiment on July 14, 1862; captured at Spotsylvania, VA on July 12, 1864; released at Elmira, NY on June30, 1865.

>I have a great deal more information on the descendents of Hiram and Elizabeth MANCIL (this is my line). Hiram also fathered 8 children by Serena TAFT/TAFF; they were recognized in the family and community as his children but went by the TAFT name.
>MANSELL, EDWARD, JR. drew land in the 1827 GA Land Lottery in the 586 District of Ware County (later Coffee/Atkinson Counties). He is not listed in the 1830 Ware Co. Census however. EDWARD, JR. and his brother, WILLIAM are found in the 1840 census of Jasper Co., TX. They had applied for land grants in 1836; this land is recorded in their possession in 1853 in Jasper and Williamson County,TX. EDWARD, JR. m.(1) Mary GASKINS; children: Henry; Edmond; Calvin; Sallie. m. (2) Prudence CONN. [Mary Gaskins did not go to TX with Edward due to that same "dispute concerning women" mentioned above. In Jasper he "married" again --without divorcing Mary, who had left him over another woman while still in GA --the only daughter of a Joseph CONN (whose gt.gt.grandson provided me with this information); Prudence and her father both died about 1838; Edward participated in the division of the estate and then left for Rapides Parish, LA where he "marries" again in 1840 and appears in the 1850 census. His first wife, Mary Gaskins, later(1880-1890s) sold the TX property.] m. (3) Mary DIAL/DYALL/DOYLE, children: James; Nancy; Lucretia; Edward; Jubal; Martha; Adeline.
> These MANSELLS are found in the GA 1850 census -- who are they? And how do they fit in this line? MANSELL, LEVI -- living in Baker Co., GA, 1850; MANSELL, ROBERT -- living in Cherokee Co.,GA,1850.
