Hi Marion,

Yes, somewhere amongst a multitude of boxes I have the unbroken line back to 1546. It's a guess, because I have not been able to prove it but I think the Eling family are the descendants of Thomas Mansbridge of Nutshulling ( now known as Nursling ) which lies just outside of Eling, close to Southampton in Hampshire. He died in 1500. I also have information about one of our family who was transported to Australia for stealing a saw. He was given 7 years but never returned. ( 7 years seems excessive so I would guess it wasn't his first brush with the law.) Another family member has been in touch with his descendants.

My house in England is at Hythe, just 20 minutes from Eling, and 10 minutes from my birth place of Marchwood, by car. My family have lived within one square mile of my birthplace for the past 500 years.

Off of the top of my head I think Henry's father was James.

Genforum will not allow me to email you directly. I'm not sure what the procedure is to be able to do that, this is my first delve into the site.

I will try to find my records over the next week or so, very hectic at the moment with visitors from home.

Living in Brittany, not far from Combourg and Mont Saint Michel.

Kind regards Jan.
