Yesterday I came across the following website of revolutionary war burials in Sevier County, Tennessee. Revolutionary War Soldiers Buried in Sevier County http://www.sevierlibrary.org/genealogy/militialist/revwar.htm Listed here is my ancestor Peter BRYAN (ca 1755-1823), great-grandfather of Caroline KEENER, who married my great-grandfather James Carson MAYNARD. But also listed is Jacob MANER: Maner, Jacob Born ca 1760 in Virginia or North Carolina Lived in Bird's Creek Community 1823, Service Was listed in a Militia List serving under John Sevier was most probably at Boyd's Creek. Died after 1830 Ref: Sevier's 1787 Militia list from McClung Buried : On His Farm near Dunn's Creek exact location unknown. Could this be the same Jacob MAINER, who settled in Surry/Wilkes NC along with Christopher and George in the 1770's? I thought he would have been born abt 1740-1755, NOT 1760 as mentioned above. But beyond that, it all looks promising. Gibson MAINER (grandfather of James C. MAYNARD) died before he could move out of Wilkes Co. But his son Gibson MANARD, Jr. settled in Jefferson Co. TN. Sevier County is right next to Jefferson and the MANARD's of this period lived close to its border. Your thoughts, anyone? Another Revolutionary soldier, James MAYNARD (1750-1852) was also in Jefferson Co. TN for for a few years before moving to Floyd/Pikes Co. KY Eventually he moved to what is now, Wayne County, West Virginia and died there 13 Oct. 1852. "Information from "Montgomery County, Virginia - Circa 1790" by Nettie Schreiner-Yantis, shows a William MAINOR in the 1788 Tax List of Montgomery County, but not on the 1789 tax list; however, Christopher MAINOR, George MAINOR and Jacob MAINOR were placed on the Montgomery tax list, under date of October 27, 1789, and we are informed that they were in the area around Brush Creek, New River, mouth of Little River, and near NC." [Hal Maynard, Feb 1998.] Comment: I've always felt that the wrong "tax man" knocked on the doors of Christopher, George and Jacob, who lived just south of the VA/NC border on Brushy Creek. Christopher and William migrated to Floyd/Pike Co. KY. But we could never find where George and Jacob eventually ended up. I would like to hear from anyone who might shed some light on Jacob MAINER and the the MAYNARD/MAINER group in Surry/Wilkes Co. NC, Floyd/Pike Co. KY, or Jefferson/Sevier Co. TN. Greetings from Oz, John Maynard Bunyip VIC Australia Descendant of: Gibson MAINER Sr. (ggg-grandfather) Gibson MANARD Jr. (ggg-grandfather) Shadrach MANARD (gg-grandfather) James C. MAYNARD (g-grandfather) Milton Monroe MAYNARD (grandfather)
