I was at the central public library here in Baltimore County last night and found a good many early Maryland Maynors (Mayner/Mainer/Mainor/Maner/Manor/Maynard). I thought I'd share what I found in the hope that someone might find it useful.

Note: I didn't go much past 1750 since my interest is in the Lumbee Indian Maynors of southeastern North Carolina, and the Indian Maynors were already in NC by 1750 or thereabouts.

I. From THE MARYLAND CALENDER OF WILLS, by Jane Baldwin, published 1904:

(A) Volume #1 (pub. 1904) -

CHARLES MAYNARD of Saint Marys County. Wife is ANN. Eldest daughter is AGNAS. Young[est?] daughter is ELIZA. Will was drawn/probated 5-2-1661.

(B) Volume #2 (pub. 1906) -

RICHARD MAINOR was left a mill by the Will of Thomas Morris (wife's name was Nann) of Patapsco River in Baltimore County. Will drawn 11-29-1693 & probated 1-14-1695.

(C) Volume #3 (pub. 1907) -

HENRY MAYNARD & SARAH MAYNARD were testators to at least three different Wills of neighbors (?) in Anne Arundel County and Magothy River, drawn/probated between 1705 & 1709.

(D) Volume #6 (pub. 1920) -

(1) JANE MANNER is a testator to a Will in Queen Anne's County, drawn 3-20-1726/7 & probated 5-9-1727.

(2) JOHN MAYNARD is a testator to a Will in Cecil County, drawn 5-4-1730 & probated 11-11-1731.

(E) Volume #8 (pub. 1928) -

TIMOTHY MAYNOR of Queen Anne's County. Wife is SUSANNA. Children are JAMES, SOLOMON, TIMOTHY, JOSEPH, ELIZABETH, JOHN, EDWARD, & MARY. Will was drawn 6-16-1741 & probated 5-6-1742.

II. From THE EARLY SETTLERS OF MARYLAND (1633 TO 1680) by Gust Skordas, published in 1979. (Note: Names were abstracted from early Maryland land patents.) (Also note that "transported" indicates someone else paid their passage, thus indicating they were probably an indentured servant.)

(A) CHARLES MAYNARD transported in 1637.
(B) CHARLES MAYNARD landowner in 1649.
(C) ANN MAYNARD transported in 1668.
(D) MARGARET MAYNARD transported in 1670.

III. From MARYLAND MARRIAGES (1634 TO 1777) compiled by Robert Barnes, published in 1975.

(A) THOMAS MAYNARD married Ann Smith, 8-25-1693.
(B) JAMES MAYNOR married Mary Prise, 12-27-1702.
(C) WILLIAM MAINER married martha Tucker, 12-14-1729.
(D) HENRY MAYNARD married Laraday Hammond, 5-7-1741.
(E) TIMOTHY MANOR married Mary Heather, 4-2-1747.
(F) JAMES MAYNER married Elizabeth Parsons, 11-3-1748.
(G) WILLIAM MAYNER married Sarah Hayse, 4-7-1752.
(H) JNO. MAYNER married Mary Lawson, 1-8-1756.

GEOGRAPHIC NOTE: Maryland is divided by the Chesapeake Bay into two areas, known locally as the eastern shore and the western shore. The Chesapeake Bay runs north-south from its mouth at Norfolk, Virginia to its source near the Mason-Dixon line, which is the border between Maryland and Pennsylvania (& many say north and south). Maryland was first colonized in 1634 in Saint Mary's County. Saint Mary's County is located along the western shore at the extreme southern part of the Chesapeake Bay. All the early settlements were along the rivers which feed the bay, with most settlements being near the southern portions of the bay. Queen Anne's County is on the eastern shore about 1/2 way up the bay. Cecil County is at the top of the bay, at its source. Anne Arundel is on the western shore. The Magothy River is in Anne Arundel county. The Patapsco River is the river upon which the city of Baltimore is seated. Here endeth the geography lesson.
