If you are still doing look ups, I am searching for any info. on "Sarjent" John Manning (1721-1837), possibly born in Delaware.Revolutionary War. Lived, served, buried in PA. Had 11 children, but only know name of one--James(unknown birth.)
James Manning married Mary Shaffer. Had daughter Mary Ann Manning(1828-1890.)
Mary Ann had 3 marriages: Jacob Shaffer, John Wagner/Wagoner/Waggoner, and John Barber.
I am a descendant of the Wagner marriage.
Inscription on John Manning's grave marker at Castle View Burial Park in New Castle, PA:
“SARJENT” JOHN MANNING1721 – 1837
Married Nancy Woodel Manning1753 – 1853
"Enlisted in 1776 in Captain Conrad Coor’s Company of Lancaster County Militia.Fought at “Flattbush”, White Plains, King’s Bridge and Brandywine, Valley Forge, Winter of 1777.
Mustered out in 1780, he eloped with Nancy Woodel, 27 year old daughter of a British Sympathizer of Baltimore, Md.They came to what is now Slippery Rock Township, claiming a 160 acre Soldier’s Patent of Donation Lands.Eleven children were born to their union, the last when John Manning was 81.He lived to be 116 years of age, passing from this life in 1837.His wife followed him in 1853.Descended from them are the Mannings, Warnocks, Weingartners, Stockmans, Waltons, Kennedys, Grandys, Garvins and other families of this county.
Their remains were re-interred here August 7, 1937, attended by officers and men of the 28th division, Pennsylvania National Guard."
Thank you for any info you can give!
