I haven't found William Manning of the Albany, NY area, yet, in the Manning genealogy, but I did find mention of Edward Manning. Edward's name does, indeed, appear in the county records at Albany and he purchesed land in 1746. The auther of this book, W.H. Manning, says that Edward Manning probably is not related to the 2 Manning families of this book. He is speaking about the William Manning family along with the Richard Manning family who both settled in Ipswich, Mass. in the early 1600s. There were other Mannings who emigrated to the US from England.

Neither Edward or William are in our line which came north from Dutchess County to Alburgh, Vt. and then on into Quebec. We did find a John Manning who had settled in Hemmingford, Quebec and it seems that he had come from the Schenectady area. His family connections are unknown.

Have you been in touch with the local historical societies of that region? And the county genweb sites are very useful, too.

Forrest Manning
