lehigh co. pa., history
david hunt, secretary and treasurer of the lehigh firebrick co., at catasauqua, is a member of one of the most distinquished families of pa. he traces his lineage to birmingham, england. about 1680, roger hunt emigrated from england and settled in chester co., pa. his wife was esther, d/o george and elisabeth aston.
among the children of roger and esther hunt was samuel whose birth occured nov. 29, 1745. he married mary beale and had 5 sons and 3 daus. thomas of this number was born dec. 19, 1791, married rachel, d/o william and elisabeth evans, of lancaster co., pa. they were the parents of 3 children, elisabeth, w/o aaron bake, mary c., w/o josiah phillips and joshusa, father of david.
grandfather hunt was engaged in the iron business and owned a rolling mill at harrisburg, and later one at phila.pa, both of which burned. he was largley invested in lands in va. his death occured in de.
the father, josiah hunt was born in chester co., may 18, 1820. the mother of david, bore the maiden name of gwenllian
thomas born in glamorganshire, wales in 1824.she came to america with her father and 3 bros., john, samuel and david. she died in 1878, after having 11 children.
david was born, aug 26, 1851 at his father's home (bridge and 2nd st., catasaugua)
in mobile, ala., april 7, 1880, david married anna l. manning, d/o hon. amos r. manning, judge of the supreme ct. of ala until his death at age 70. he was born at amboy, n.j. where mrs, hunt was educated, mr. and mrs. hunt had 7 children, 3 of whom are deceased. lewis manning died nov.4, 1893, at the age of 11, david died age 4, stilwell, age 1. the surviving children were, roger, gwenllian, thomas, martha manning and grace manning.
