The Manning that I cannot trace backward is Drury Manning b. ca. before 1765 NC (Bertie Co., NC, I think) d. after 1798 GA (probably Richmond or Montgomery Co., GA). Drury Manning received a land grant on 5/17/1784 for 250 acres for his Revolutionary War service. He was in Richmond Co., GA in 1792-1796 and owned land on Spirit Creek. He was shown on the Montgomery Co., GA Tax List in 1798 owning 50 acres in Richmond Co., GA and 100 acres in Montgomery Co., GA. I cannot find this Drury Manning on any record after 1798.
I think that my ancestor, Elizabeth Manning, was a daughter of Drury Manning. Elizabeth Manning b. 1781 NC married James L. Moore on 3/11/1798 in Montgomery Co., GA, and then they lived (next county over) in Emanuel Co., GA.
There is a John Manning b. 1764 in Bertie Co., NC, in nearby Laurens Co., GA who died there in 1813. John Manning named his first son “Drury” Manning (b. ca. 1789), and Elizabeth Manning and her husband, James L. Moore, named their first son “John” Moore (b. ca 1798). This John Manning of Laurens Co., GA was the son of Benjamin Manning and Pheraby Duggan. I thought that Drury Manning was, too, but have found no proof of this.
If anyone has information on Drury Manning b. before 1765 in NC, please email me. Thanks for any help you can give me.
