unusual marriage dates & places/ Charleston & Georgetown, SC

My research is for HAMILTON/HAMBLETON surname of Liberty/Marion Co., SC. One of my 'brick walls' is -- where were they before 1790????
There has been a hint that they were in Charleston, SC.
Thus I found..............
John HAMILTON & Roseanna MANNING married in two places.
May 1767 in PAWLEY ISLAND Georgetown, SC
20 Nov 1769 Charleston, SC

AND
Stephen HAMILTON & Elizabeth VERDAL married
16 June 1834 St Andrews Parrish
June 1835 PAWLEYs Island, Charleston, SC

WHY
the difference in dates and places???
Where is Pawley Island??
Where is St Andrews Parrish???
Any assistance appreciated
Audrey
