Hello Jennifer,
I was not told you wrote, I check the Familys I am working on at least once a week or I would not have seen your message.
I don't have all the names of who Sam shot and killed,
Now, you said he was (Copland) in a second story building?
In the window?
Sam said one of the sons of b----- yelled down at him from a window"thought we killed you you son of a B----".
Sam pulled his pistol and shot him dead.
Could this be Copland? I don't know.
I do know the men that wanted Clemuel dead owed him money.
I checked the list and found no John C Copland on it.
But if he was one of them it would be to be with William
(his brother in law)William owed alot, James Pleasant was one of them too (WM's son)and he owed no money.
There was
Charlie Bird
William Manning
James P Manning
Gip Bowman
S D Nelson
Alf Bolen
William Anderson
There were more men, but I don't have my note's on what Cox wrote with me right now.
It is very hard for me to think one of my Gr Grandfathers
could kill the other, but times were hard and the people had to be hard too I guess.
William lost his wife around 1848, 3 sons, and his father
in 1860, 1861 was the killing of Clemuel, what does drive one man to kill another? I think William's heart was full of hate.
I would love to hear from you Jennifer on Lavina and her family, I will give you any information you need on the Mannings, the death of Margaret Manning Hilton's husband,
he died in 1860,(fell? or tossed? of a boat) James P. Manning --shot during a bank holdup in the 1870's, James was not helping with the holdup, he was just there.
write me,
[email protected]
{be sure to have Manning's in the subject}
Ellie
