Francis Mann and Margaret Morrison Bonaventure Co. Quebec
I am researching the family of Francis Mann son of Isaac Edward Mann and
Margaret Elizabeth Smith.Isaac Edward was the son of John Mann and
Elizabeth Pemberton, and so on going back to the Loyalist family from New
York.
I am trying to determine when the family married into the Mi'maq First Nation.
I believe that Francis Mann's wife Margaret Morrison may not be the daughter
of Hector Morrison who was of Scottish heritage, and may have been herself
of indigenous heritage.
The Census of 1861 for Bonaventure County states the following.
Men (Mann) Francis -Farmer-Born in Lower Canada (Quebec) - Farmer
- age 47 - Married
Mershew, Margaret - wife - age 41
(Menshaw)
Men (Mann) Francis 19, Isaac 11, Thomas 7, Margaret, 3, Peter 1
Caplin, Angelique - 80 - Widow - born N.B. -
Mershew, Newel - 26 - married
Men (Mann), Mary - 18 - wife
In the census of 1871
Mann, Francis - 57 - born Quebec, Catholic, Scottish, farmer, married
(Margaret has now died, Francis remarried)
Monique, 36, Quebec, Catholic, Indian, married
etc.
Does anyone have any definitive details on this family, and my speculation
regarding Margaret "Mershaw" Morrisons possible Indigenous heritage?
