I am actually researching two sets of Mann/DeGroot
I was able to locate the 1880 census in Harrington, NJ.Apparently Samuel must of died by than because the wife, Rachel DeGroat was listed as a Widow. This family had a total of 11 children and was able to find three of them on the 1880 census.
1. Manning
2. Amsey who married Maria and had a son Albert, b. 1878
3. John, my Great Great G’father , b. 1854. married Mildred Smith and had a son Spencer, b. 1878.Spencer apparently married a women with the same surname Mary Mann, b. 1886, d. 1915.It gets really bizarre because Mary’s parents are Silas or Seizer Mann who married Effie DeGroot.
I wish I could locate this family prior to 1880 and have been lost trying to locate any information for awhile now.
Other first names I have are:Anna Belle (my grandma, I have picture), Evelyn, Mattie Venus, Albert Henry (also known as William), Mary Ellen (died at infant), Lucinda, Harriet, Samuel, Amy, Anna Mary & John Jr., Spencer.
What is really weird is a found a birth certificate on Anna Belle’s daughter Anna.On the bottom of the certificate someone wrote down the Mother is Black and the father is White.According to census this family was either listed as Mulatto, White or Black.I was told this family has Indian heritage but have not found out any proof. If anyone would like to see the picture please let me know.
I know I have something on Suffern – when I get home from work today I will check it out.
Please feel free to email me at [email protected]
Thank you.
