Thanks John,
I think I had better pass the trip to the Franklin Co., Courthouse and go to the archives instead. I have never looked at any of the original lottery records and didn't know what they contained. Daniel Isaac Manley died in Franklin Co. between 1816 and 1818. If I remember right Tempy and the kids were in the 1824 Lottery so some of the children would have been grown by then, but I believe Absalom would have been 14 and should be listed as an orphan. I have never done much research using land records before 1900. If I find that Tempy sold the land she got for the orphans, do you know if she would have had to divide any of the proceeds with the married children and if so would their names be in the records? From what I've been able to find out about the family in those times, money didn't seem to be a big problem, so I'm thinking there shouldn't have been much debt and there should have been a division of funds if that is the way they did it.
Diane
