We do spell the last name Manning but have heard that it is suppose to be Manion/Mannion/O'Mannin, etc.
My G-G-G-Grandfather was James Manning, b. 1772 in VA, d. 1826 in IN, m. Elizabeth Chastain ca. 1797/8 in either VA and had many children, one being John Manning b. 8 Jul 1801 Franklin Co., VA, d. 1873 in CA, m. (1) Levicy/Lovicia Jane Collier and they had three known children, Absalom, James & Mary.
Absalom is my G-Grandfather, b. 1823 in IN, d. OR, m. Clarissa Jameson Hinton in MO, had one child there, James David Manning, b. 1823 and last, no. 10, Arthur Augustus Manning b. in OR in 1870, traveled with the circus and met and married Pirley/Pearl Andrew West of Holly Springs, Marshall Co., MS in 1898 and their last child, Eva Ruth Manning is my mother and she married Everett S Kendrick. My mother and all of her Manning brothers & sisters are gone now.
Don't know if you can help me get back beyound 1772 before VA line.
Thanking you in advance for any help you can give me.
Edith
