John Mangum (1763, VA-1843, Itawamba County, MS) was married three times:
1) Mary Murdoch, mother of James, Nancy and Elizabeth,
2) Gemima Goggins, mother of Cyrus and Mary,
3) Rebecca Canida m 19 Jan 1809.
John and Rebecca Canida Mangum had, among others, Jane Mangum who married George Washington Crawford. Jane died in Oklahoma, actually IT, in 1904. This is my line. Jane Mangum is my 2nd great-grandmother. John and his marriages are fairly well documented as Rebecca and all of her children except Jane became Mormon. Rebecca died in Winter Quarters, Nebraska enroute to Utah. If you search http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com for John Mangum, you will find a lot. Pay especial attention to Kerry Petersen's database, he has a lot of documentation. I'm sure Kerry would welcome an e-mail from you, too.
I am happy to have Cyrus's other children's names. Allow me to explain why I add Mary Turman to Cyrus's family. Bear with me it's long, sorry!
Although I believed John to be Jane's father, I had to disprove other possibilities as I had yet to establish contact with anyone who had confirmation that John was her father. You see, one person named her husband as Jedediah Brown long ago, possibly confusing her with another Jane Mangum who did marry an M. D. Brown. Even though that information is incorrect, it has perpetuated. As I was searching for candidates for Jane Mangum's father, I came upon Cyrus. Jane named a son John Cyrus.
Both John and Cyrus Mangum had daughters in the correct age range in the 1830 census and 1840 censuses. By the time of the 1850 census, both daughters were out of the household. I have a marriage record for Jane, but still no one confirming that she was John's daughter, that old erroneous Jedediah Brown problem, so I still needed to be sure that Cyrus's daughter wasn't also named Jane.
I searched the 1850 Pickens County, AL census for all those women between 20 and 25 years of age who were born in Alabama. There were several, one of which was Mary Turman, listed a few families away from that of Cyrus's. Mary and John Turman also moved to Lavaca County, Texas and are living near Cyrus Mangum and family. Note that Cyrus had a sister named Mary. Also, Mary Mangum Turman named a son Joseph. One of the sons of Rebecca and John was named Joseph.
Where did you find the information on Lucinda and her family?
