Dear Gloria,
in 1940 some relatives of mine, cousins and uncles, migrated from Campobello di Mazara (Trapani-Sicily) to USA, but I lost their traces. Yes there are many Mangiaracina in Sicily, because we had Normans (french people) domination in the year 1400. Normans used composed names and mangia-racina is one of them. Racina derives from french "raisin" (grape) or "racine" (root). Another caracteristic is that many "Mangiaracina" in Sicily, have green eyes and blonde hairs.
Best wishes.
Giacomo M.
