Hello,
John J. Mangham of Bremen was a son of John Willis Mangham of Upson County, Ga. (he was born & raised in Pike County). Brigadier General John K. Jackson was JWM's brigade commander in the Civil War, and may have been the inspiration for your g-g-grandfather's name. JWM's youngest brother, however, was Robert Jackson Mangham, so perhaps JJM's name came from a combination of father & uncle. . . ?
As it turns out, my own grandfather, Henry Gordon Mangham, stayed with his Uncle John in Bremen quite a bit, apparently while attending the Berry School there. Also, I have a copy of sheet music for JJM's gubernatorial campaign! If you haven't seen it, it's a hoot!
Anyway, since you're interested in the Mangham family, I hope you'll visit my webpage at www.mangham.org for info from the book I wrote on the entire Mangham family in the Civil War era.
Also check out my links page to help you navigate to Lynn Parham's webpage on the Mangham-Mangum-Mangrum families.
