GUION-MILLER ROLL (CHEROKEE) - MAYNOR APPLICANTS The Guion-Miller Roll is a "census" of the Eastern Band of The Cherokee Indian Nation. As best I understand it, it was taken circa 1909 as a result of a court decision. The court ruled that descendants of those Cherokees who were forced to move to Oklahoma (i.e.- The Trail of Tears) were to be compenstated by the United States government as a result of treaty violation. Apparently, approximately 100,000 people applied to receive benefits, but only about 35,000 were authenticated as the living descendants of those Cherokee Indians forced to move in 1838. It just so happens that 15 Maynors (or variant spellings of Maynor) applied for benefits. The following is a list of those 15 Maynors, along with their application number, and the state or territory where they were residing at the time of application. (NOTE: I believe [but I'm not absolutely certain] that I.T. means Indian Territory, and I assume that the Indian Territory became the state of Oklahoma.) Maine, Florence E....#31889...I.T.
