Thanks for writing, Today, I found my late grandfather's records, and saw that I had already penciled in what you had told me. I thought to check, and sure enough, at about the same time that I posted the message to the Madeville Board here on genforum, I posted another on rootsweb in the Van Winkle forum. Someone there posted the following info. I would be curious to know how the information below compares with what you know. of course, i wonder about each and every maternal line in turn, and I have had little time since moving to pursue this: <http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.van-20-winkle/119.1/mb.ashx> From records in the 1913 and 1993 Van Winkle family histories: John Mandeville's wife was Aeltje "Altie" Van Winkle (11 Apr 1786 - 4 Mar 1846). Christened Reformed Dutch Church, Bergen, NJ on 7 May 1786. Married 29 Mar 1806 to John Mandeville. Remarried 29 Nov 1828 to Stephen Vreeland. Parents are given as: Daniel Van Winkle (30 Jun 1758 Hackensack, Bergen Co - 13 Jun 1830) and Antje Winne (1754 - 25 Aug 1843). Married 26 Oct 1782 in Hudson Co., NJ. Parents of Daniel: Jacob Van Winkle (chr. 26 Jul 1727 RDC NY - 17 Dec 1778 Bergen Co., NJ) married to Rachel Cammega (d. 18 Sep 1772). Married 8 Apr 1753. Parents of Jacob: Hendrick Van Winkle (19/20 Jan 1696 Hackensack - 28 May 1767) and Catrintje Waldron. Married 30 May 1726 at RDC, Bergen Co., NJ. Parents of Hendrick: Jacob Van Winkle (chr. 10 Oct 1650 Manhattan, NY - 20 Nov 1727) and Grietje Hendrickse Hellingh (d. 20 Aug 1732). Married 26 Mar 1695 in RDC, Bergen Co., NJ. Parents of Jacob: Jacob Wallingen (b. 1599 Winkle, Holland - 17 Aug 1657 Bergen Co., NJ) and Trintje Jacobs (1620 Hoorne, North Holland, Netherlands - 11 May 1677 Jersey City, Hudson Co., NJ). This is all taken from the 2 VW histories. Reprints can be found for sale as well as some used book dealers. There is considerable history written in them about the family and the NJ history. The 1993 author who updated and added to the 1913 history is a regular poster to the Van Winkle board (on Rootsweb) as well... Notify Administrator about this message?
