I posted this so people can, if they wish, print out just the relevant sections of this booklet the family published in 1888, containing a speech by one of its members, Rev. Giles Henry Mandeville. He is long winded, but there are some interesting anecdotes, and all connected to the Mandeville family. There may be clues in it someone can make sense of.
He makes a post script:
"I append the following and ask for information from any one to whom this may come that may help to fill the blanks or correct the names and dates. I desire to trace the trunk-lines of my own branch, and help others to trace theirs.
Yellis Jansen de Mandeville born in France, married about 1645
married Eliza Hendricks (born in Holland) they had six children, the eldest Hendrick born in Gelderland about 1646. He married Annitje (daughter of Peter Schell)of Hempstead L.I. on July 18, 1680.
He then married Elizabeth Jansen Berry of New York April 21,1699. He had six children with Elizabeth
*Yellis Mandeville{in ink, 'or Giles'} born Jan. 25, 1705. Married June 18, 17(3?)9. Died Aug. 8, 1776
Married Leah Bruin, or Brown, of Second River or Belleville,NJ. She died July 19, 1798. They had eight children {in ink:"your grandmother's grandfather."}
Anthony Mandeville born March 7, 1741 {in pencil:Dr. M.'s grandfather}, died Oct. 26, 1828. He married:
1)Williamsse Van Houten, in 1760. She was born May 9, 1739 and died March 27, 1797
2)Margaret Jones, on July 29, 1798 {no birth or death dates for her}
3)Charity Van de Vort, no marriage date. She was born Nov. 4, 1740 and died Sept. 4, 1826. He had six(?) children.
Yellis, or Giles A. Mandeville born May 31, 1777, married to Elizabeth Doremus on Sept. 20, 1798. She was born Feb. 2, 1782 and she died on May 12, 1851. He died May 22, 1861.
Thomas Mandeville born Feb. 13, 1803. Married Hester Bailey Secor on Nov. 10, 1824. She was born May 24, 1807 and died Dec. 20, 1893. He died April 7, 1875 and they had ten children.
Rev. Giles Henry Mandeville, D.D. born Dec. 12, 1825. Married to Rachel Jacobus on July 29, 1851. She was born Oct. 20, 1826 and they had four children. {no death dates, as this is the author}
Henry Addison Mandeville, M.D. born Dec. 16, 1859. Married Jennie J. Rice on Sept. 17, 1887. She was born March 26, 1858. {no death dates provided}
{written inside is: "M. A. Fichter" "Your great-grandfather was William Mandeville brother of Anthony Mandeville Q.V."}
