Hi Cliff,
The information that I have comes from a family heritage book that my husband's Great Aunt Nora wrote. The only information I have to go on for Rade Mamula's dates of birth and death are 1885-1947.What is your source... perhaps hers was in error....She is still living.. if needed I could contact her.
Sorry about the typing error.... Rade Mamula married Sarah not "Arah" b.1882 - d.1977
Rade Mamula was Great Aunt Nora's uncle... and she wrote this about him..
"Rade was Mother's younger brother. He immigrated about 1907, coming to the South Side, Pittsburgh. His bride-to-be came two years later with the wedding prearranged. She was also a Maul from the village of Gomirje. They had five children; three boys and two girls. All were born on the South Side. The family was members of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church on 16th Street.
Rade was a quiet, unassuming man and spent much of his time working and sleeping. His oldest son, Nicholas, as a very young man went to Detroit to work for Ford Motor Company; Leo worked in a veriety of plants, and Ned worked for Duquesne Light Comany. All three boys and Sars's husband Ralph Somma served in World War II.Nick was in the Navy; Leo was in the Army; and Ned was in the Marines. Two of Rade's children have Serbian spouses.
In 1952, Leo's body was found in the Monongahela River. It is not known if this was suicide or foul play."Leo loved life too much for me to think that is was suicide," said his sister Sara.
The deceased members of the family are bured in St. George Serbian Orthodox Cemetery in Carrick , Pittsburgh. For over sixty years, Rade or some members of his family lived at 3253 Josephone Street, South Side, Pittsburgh. Many of Rade's grandchildren have college degrees and have distinguished themselves in their occupation.Nick and his wife Eleanor are active in St. Stephan's Free Serbian Orthodox Church in Warren, Michigan.
