I have a photo of J.W. Maltsberger who may have been John. He was a San Antonio city pound policeman, 1889 - 1891. Described as a former trail driver. It is not clear whether he was a dog catcher or trail driver for the aforementioned years.

There is at least one book on old Texas Trail drivers. Possible he may be mentioned there.

My G-Great Grandmother was a Maltsberger who married a Miller whose daughter Married a Mathis whose daugher Georgia Mathis was my father's mother (Mrs. J.W. Phillips).

The g-g grandmother Malsberger must have been in West Texas at one time (early 1900s) because one of my aunts was taught a little German by her.

I see that Robert Phillips has replied. I think this may be my cousin in Odessa, Tx. --Doyle Austin (formerly Big Spring)
