Sarah Maltby York 1850 Hi nick I just came across a 5 year old e-mail while looking on the Maltby York link on google. Have you got any further? I have links with the Maltby family. George Brown, my great great grandfather married a Sarah Maltby in or around 1850. Her family had a wine merchants business in High Ousegate, York and the Browns were the Chemists in the road. Their daughter Annie was born in 1855 and married Walter Ingram Baynes (from the Timber and Mahogany merchants in High Ousegate)in 1883, when she was 7 months pregnant with Francis, my grandfather. I don't remember him cos he died when I was a baby. My mum was his youngest child b 1919 in York. I live in Baldock, Herts near Cambridge. I'm married to Mike and my maiden name was Williamson. I was born about 5 miles from York. I'm currently in York a bit because my middle child Emily is at University there, and I've caught up with a lot of family. The Baynes family have a fruit and veg business on York Market. They continued wealthy until John Baynes died in 1897. I haven't got a lot of info on the Maltby's except that they were a very old York family. As were the Baynes (my mums family) and the Browns. My mum is still alive and nearly 90. My dad came from Sheffield. I'm a Special Needs teacher by trade and our new term is about to start, so I won't have much time to research until July (I only work 2 days a week but still have a young teenager at home). could you respond if you get this mail and it's still current.
